Race Report
JKC Winter Warmer race report, at Whilton Mill Go Karting and Outdoor activities in The Kart Championship BKC / CKC / JKC
Friday - Practice
It started wet, something new to try at Whilton Mill Kart Club, I was all over the place! Spinning several times in my first session by 3rd session I'd got into it and I was one of the fastest on track in the wet. In the afternoon the track started to dry giving us time to try several different set ups.
Saturday - Quali & Heats
Practice P8
Qualification P25
Heat 1 P11 14
Heat 2 P23 2
Practice - I was quick on track using old tyres 0.4 off the fastest who was on new tyres so I was very pleased with the practice session.
Qualification - oh dear........dad was my mechanic and messed up! Some how he'd not tightened up my sprocket, I managed one lap and then came to a stop on track P25
Heat 1 - Starting at the back there was only one way to go.....forward, I got a good start, I had to really push hard as I was on the back foot. I finished a fantastic P12 going up another place to P11 after penalties applied. A great Heat.
Heat 2 - I had a good race start again, my progression was fast again, I got upto P16, settled a bit when it all went wrong..... really wrong.....on the fastest corner of the circuit a driver tried to make a move that wasn't there...off we both went into the barrier at high speed. When we hit the barrier his kart flew up over mine, hitting me & my kart. I jumped out of my mangled kart and over the barrier to give the thumbs up to show I was OK.
Unfortunately my kart wasn't, it was totalled, chassis bent & cracked, axle bent, steering wheel bent, nearly in half, radiator snapped just to name a few bits.
The XKART team were amazing they worked late into the night to rebuild my kart, new frame, axle, steering wheel, carriers etc.. wow! A huge thank you to Louis Harvey, Matty Street, Billy Corns, Josh Howard Racing & big Lee Hurst for helping to put my kart back together.
Sunday - Super Heats & Race
My starting position on the grid for the super heats was P17 due to the accident so i had a lot to do if I wanted to be top 10.
Practice P23
Super Heat 1 P15 2
Race P9 7
Practice - I only completed one lap, after the accident, I had several new or used spares put on the kart to get it working, my used plug cap came off so that finished Practice.
Super Heat 1 - i wasn't put off by the Practice session, I started well, moving up the field a few places, I finished P15 after I picked up a penalty for crossing the tramlines too early, my bad.
Final - After the Super Heats I had a starting position of P16 on the grid. The race went well, I felt very good, I was starting to get the feel of my new chassis, I felt really quick moving up several places, I was only 0.1 off the fastest on track. I finished a fantastic P9, another top ten finish.....what a result considering
Overall........what can I say....this is motorsport, the highs and lows are all part of my character building that will only make me stronger. Onwards and upwards...the podium beckons me.
Thanks to my sponsors Malbern Windows , XKART for all of the team support. Karting Live TV for the brilliant coverage of JKC Championship
