A quick return to the track for the 4th round of the IKR Winter series at Clay Pigeon. A wet and breezy start with drying conditions in the afternoon leading some good racing.
19th April 2025 - IKR Round 4 got off to a wet and breezy start with both practice and qualifying sessions requiring wet tyres and an opportunity to use the new wet suit bought with my contributors' support. Slippery conditions made it difficult to get any temperature into the tyres and grip was limited. Not my best qualifying but an improvement from the practice session.
Into Heat 1 and the Pre Final on dry tyres and managing to find grip and get temperature into my tyres, I improved my grid position ready for the final in 3rd position in Class. Some good overtaking moves but unable to get close enough in the Pre Final to make a sensible move for second.
The Final saw me lose a position at the first corner failing to get grip on the outside. I battled to retake 3rd place but this took 3 laps by which time the second place was over 10 seconds ahead. Despite pushing hard and achieving my personal best ever lap time at Clay Pigeon of 39.674 seconds I had to settle for 3rd position in the Junior class.
Overall, I was pleased with my progress during this race meeting achieving a new PB lap time, my first podium and incident free.
Next I am aiming to enter Round 2 of the National Tillotson UK Series as this has fortunately been moved to Clay PIgeon rather than Kimbolton.
